Mt Tarawera Volcanic Zone Adventure
Per Person $599
(Approximate flight time 50 minutes)
Join us for a journey from the past to the present. Just after midnight on the 10 June 1886 a series of earthquakes was followed by a massive eruption. It buried three villages, killed 150 people and totally destroyed the Pink and White Silica Terraces of Lake Rotomahana – one of New Zealand’s first tourist attractions. Mount Tarawera was split apart leaving a rift 17kms long.
Departing from our famous Huka Falls (Taupo) base you will see the Huka Falls, the Wairakei geothermal area and Aratiatia dam as you traverse the Taupo volcanic zone on the way to Mt Tarawera.
Flying high above Mt Tarawera you can soak in powerful views of the magnificent craters and domes formed during the largest eruption in New Zealand’s living memory. Stunning crater lakes, imposing National Parks and much of Rotorua’s renowned thermal activity also feature in this flight including the thermal reserves of Waimangu and Wai-O-Tapu.
Minimum of 2 persons required for all flights unless otherwise stated.
